Irazu VolcanoID: 20068
This exciting trip begins by ascending the breathtaking summit of the majestic Irazú Volcano for a terrific view of the massive crater and its lake, an almost perfect circle with steeply inclined walls (sometimes the lake is lime-green and other days it is red). The name of this sub conical volcano is derived from an indigenous word meaning thunder and earthquake mountain. This is the tallest active volcano in Costa Rica. At the top of the incredible volcano on a clear day both the amazing Pacific and Atlantic Oceans can be seen. After an exciting tour at the awe-inspiring volcano, we will descend to the historical city of Cartago. Here we will visit the mysterious ruins of the old Parish and view the beautiful Basilica of our Virgen de los Angeles with rich displays of old carvings, ancient statues and art, this is a traditional pilgrimage center for many Costa Rican Catholics.
