This extensive tour turns coffee enthusiasts into coffee experts! The day begins with a visit to our historic Tierra Madre wet mill. Amid high-mountain nature, beautiful panoramic views and colorful murals, expert guides explain the time-tested process of milling and sun-drying freshly harvested coffee cherries. Our mill is high in the volcanic hills of San Rafael de Heredia, a region that has produced much of the country’s finest coffee for more than 150 years and milled it for a century. The mill is centrally located, about 15 minutes from Heredia, 40 minutes from downtown San José or 45 minutes from the Juan Santamaría International Airport. From the mill, travel a few minutes by bus to the Café Britt roasting area for our classic Coffee Tour, a fun stage-play-in-a-coffee-plantation that traces coffees journey from plantation to cup. The tour ends with a delicious, buffet-style lunch at Don Próspero Restaurant. Savor delightful selections of native Costa Rican fruits and vegetables with tender meats and side dishes.
