The Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve is managed by the Board of the Santa Elena Technical Professional High School. It was opened in 1992 and all the income is used for conservation, education and research programs; by visiting this reserve, you are collaborating with all of these projects. Due to high levels of humidity, flora and fauna are abundant and diverse. Since Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve is located in the Continental Divide; warm winds from both oceans along with precipitation, creates the perfect combination for one of the best cloud forest reserves in Costa Rica. Different species of trees, orchids, lichens are easily found here. Spot birds, monkeys, agoutis, coatimundis, tapirs, ocelots, peccary and pumas. There is a platform from which, on a clear day, you may observe the Arenal Volcano and its lake. This private reserve is dedicated to protecting the cloud forest. Home to the Chiquito and Caņo Negro rivers, major water sources of the Arenal Lake. Due to its great biodiversity, keep all your senses alert so you can enjoy the magnificent sounds of the forest. |
