In Golfito, you board a boat and go south along the coast. After crossing Zancudo Bay, you go up the Rio Sábalo and turn into small, meandering branches, where egrets, herons, cormorants, pelicans, crocodiles, monkeys and the typical stilt roots of the mangrove vegetation can be seen. After a slow ride through the dense mangrove swamp, you stop over at Playa Zancudo to have lunch and to go swimming. You return through a narrow canal which separates Golfito Bay from the open ocean. Depending on the tides, you might change the direction of the tour, because the canal is passable only at highest tide. |
